Tottenham: Patience and Common Sense Needed

In the light of day waking with the realisation that there will be no Champions League football for Spurs next season its understandable to feel deflated, especially after being so near, but put any knee-jerk reaction to one side and think about it...
Spurs at this point in time, lets be honest, are'nt really ready for the step up and would we want to be knocked out of the competition at the early stages anyway and suffer not only embarrassment, but a dent in confidence thus scuppering our Prem League chances?
Yes we didnt qualify, but there is a bigger reason than Chelsea by default taking it, we wasnt good enough, after just having a kind of "good but no cigar season"
Incidently both Chelsea and Bayern Munich looked very ordinary on the night if its any consolation.

A club like Tottenham Hotspur need to be prepared not 'thrown in' at the deep end wearing inflatables.
Its time for Harry Redknapp to recall our out on loan players, assess any injuries, off load any £££ suckers and look at what we've actually got at the club, who we ARE as a squad/team, basically.
The Europa League will be a good training ground for our younger players and the older ones seeking more regular football will be satisfied so we can use this to our long term advantage.

As a supporter I would like Mr Levy to hold our 'best' players to their contracts or, if they have to go, at least get top money for them so we can be competetive this summer in the transfer market.

Qualifying for competions is all well and good but winning competitions is what its all about.

So you say we aren't ready for the champions league, but we still managed a quarter finals appearance only 2 seasons ago when our squad was considerably weaker.

We are more then ready, the only consolation to last night is that we can offload those that aren't committed to the club in bring in some hunger and determination, i think that's what is really needed.

But surely we were less ready for the CL two years ago, yet got to the quarter finals. Being in it improves what you have; it's an opportunity lost. That said, Arry can't do anything about external events, he got us into the top 4 as we hoped, now we have to consolidate that league position with clever purchases. Over to levy......

A team that cant beat the likes of QPR or Norwich when CL almost certainly depended on results are ready for CL ?

Couldn't disagree more. You show a terrible lack of ambition. We threw and I mean threw 3rd place away. Arsenal are no better than us and Chelsea are worse. Only the two Manchester teams showed more resilience and class than is up until we lost to arsenal then the Redknapp business hit and all of a sudden it all goes to shit. We're a couple of players short of top 2 challenging form. Now we will be lucky to hold onto players and buy new world class ones. Your lack of ambition is frightening.

Agree that E League could be useful as it will still generate funds and give experience to youngsters, but its still left a bad taste.

The way spurs play is generally more conducive to the champs league, so we would definitely be fine in the cl. The issue is whether we can handle the league and cl. I am totally gutted, but somehow feel this was out of our hands. What are the chances of messi and robben not being able to score penalties. Luck has a big part to play and spurs did not get many breaks this season

As a spurs fan i will never forgive HR for saying:i got the team fighting the relegation and took it to Ch.League.That shows the way of thinking of the manager.Unacceptable! He should be sacked the next day!And if someone thinks he was right then he should take the blame of the current situation as well.Nobody is bigger than the club.We should all be like a punch if we want to be big.Manager, chairman, players and fans one punch.

Anonymous said...

hey anon 11.44 You say we "threw 3rd place away" No we didnt throw it away, we were BEATEN by lowly opposition. Are you suggesting QPR are as good as BMunchen???
Deluded.

Anonymous said...

Being realistic I think the author is saying but I feel the same as any Spurs supporter, we are gutted no matter how you wrap it up.
Spurs definately blew it this season. We shouldnt have been in the situation of relying on other teams results.

Anonymous said...

We need a decent striker and central defender ffs

Simonspurs said...

Europa league us useless and a distraction as it proved this past season. It just seems the whole of last season was a waste now. Champions league has been and us the aim and to achieve it and then have it stolen, especially by Chelsea (and arse courtesy of Fulop) is gutting. We are certainly better than chelski and they won it so why couldn't we progress again like 2 seasons ago with a weaker squad. We blew it this year. Admittedly chelski and arse had huge amounts of luck but you make your own luck and the England job certainly influenced our season. Am totally apathetic re euros now, especially with that odious piece of Chelsea slime in the team who was the catalyst for redknapp speculation. Haven't been this gutted since lasagne-gate let arse in years ago.....

Totally agree anon 11.44, we threw it all away. We had ample opportunity to take third and Harry blew it, tactically inept and no plan B, takes off our best player in the Cup semi (VDV) and puts on a striker leaving our midfield to be overrun by Chelsea's and when we needed the killer goal at Villa Park he brings on Parker, a defensive midfielder, I mean WTF!! Fair play to Chelsea, they were poor overall but did what they had to and showed more composure than Bayern when it mattered, if RDM doesn't get the job than Abramovic truly is a cock. We lost 3rd cos of a manager believing his own hype and taking his eye off the ball when it mattered most. I want to see the back of him now and replace him with a manager that sees further than their own status in the game. We got to the CL quarter-finals with a weaker squad, and I respect Harry for that but I feel he's taken us as far as he wants to (not 'can' as we saw just how unfocussed he was in the job these last few months) so ffs where does your logic come from?? That final last night meant more to us than it did to those two clubs but it was a scenario that could have been avoided if only Harry kept with the programme. HARRY OUT!!

Anonymous said...

Patience?? I been patient for over 20yrs!!!!
Levy SORT IT OUT, only thing I agree with article is getting top dollar for want away players
Bale 50M Modric 50M VDV 50M our competitors pay up or shut up.

Anonymous said...

So 10 point gap is not throwing it away? I'm deluded? Fool. We lost due to bad tactical choices and a manager more conscious of getting the England job.

WelshSpur said...

Please sing along;
Last night I had the strangest dream I’d ever dreamed before,
I dreamt that Chelsea had won the champions league an spurs had finished fourth,
I said to myself how could this be? We had an 11 point gap
I now realise its not a dream and it because of Harry redknap.

Harry out

Simonspurs said...

Plus we shouldn't be patient! Patient for what? I'm bloody angry we qualify and have it grabbed away. I want spurs saying we're challenging uefa. We're bigger than poxy clubs in all leagues outside the top 4 countries. We deserve 4th and to keep our players. Fuck chelski and arse laughing at us

Anonymous said...

The players under performed at the time they needed to come through for us.
Fair play to Drogba, was a great header but gutted we lose out on as techno.
Redknapp was some part to blame but not all.

Anonymous said...

The players you say should be held to their contracts are obviously Bale, Modric and VDV??
I say if they want to go the fook off its those players that let us be in this position in the first place!!

Anonymous said...

Is this Harry's own blog for his deluded followers!? Hi Iarry ere, we're great. We were at the bottom when I came ere. Now look Iv brought in some oap's and were triffic. England? No, never fancied it anyway, got a triffic job here. Modric? Who knows what will happen, the chairmen deals with that. No he won't be going anywhere. We're title contenders. Top 6 is hard these days. Defoes a triffic finisher, top goal scorer so the bench is the best place for him, I'll bring on Parker when we need to score. Triffic

Sorry not larry, arry. You know I can't spell

We havent qualified because of another football technicality but we blew it,the season overall was a good one for Spurs but a dissapointing finale. No good talking bout 2 years ago, its now, and the facts are we arnt good enough.

Anonymous said...

So the autopsy has started and the signs all point to HR and his lack of squad rotation and tactical nouse. How about the lokes of Bale believing his own hype and shooting from 30 yards at every opportunity and being the being one of the most inconsistent performers in the last 2/3 mths along with Modric (only 4 goals) and Ady who "plays when he wants to"
The true stars will stay, aka Sandro:Kaboul;Walker and even Defoe who given half a chance would of turned those drawn games into victory.
It is true the coaching staff need an overhaul, set pieces and corners were a joke.
The nucleus is there but as per Newcastle and to some extent Everton where the rule does not apply it is often the big fish that spoils the party for others

Anonymous said...

I am really gutted about last nights result because it was Chelsea more so than any other team- Chelsea messed up the beginning of our season due to the Modric saga- Adebayor had a goal ruled out at WHL against Chelsea which was a goal- they scored the goal that was not against us in the semi-final and now they do this? They have bloody messed up our season on their own. Saying that, no one can take away the fact that we are Englands 4th best team it takes luck to win the Champions League but over 38 you finish where you deserve to finish and we did what we had to do. Our transfer targets will still come to us with or without Champions League- it also gives them a season to settle instead of being thrown into the deep end and you never know this could be a blessing in disguise - Modric might be a tramp and want to leave but Bale is going to stay- we can still compete and the Europa League is not too bad- Napoli, Inter Milan etc big teams are playing in it so we can still play with some of the best. COYS!

Anonymous said...

Its gutting that the arse&chelski will be in it but WE will enjoy seeing THEM get humiliated in Europe so it aint all bad.

Anonymous said...

Well said 12.23 anon. Plus, scumbag John Terry led to capello resigning and unsettling redknapp. Plus they and their fans are scum of the highest order with no class eg singing in minutes silence, everything about Terry, ashley cole etc

LET'S ALL LAUGH AT TOTTENHAM! LET'S ALL LAUGH AT TOTTENHAM! LA LAAA LAAA LA! *HEY* LA LAAA LAAA LA! *HEY*

PUCKER UP CHICKEN FUCKERS! YOU'RE USED TO THE TASTE OF OUR ARSE AS WE ALWAYS FINISH AHEAD OF YOU!

MIND THE GAP!

BWAAAAHAHAHAHAH! YES! IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY TO SEE YOU FAIL! AND THE MORE RESPONSES I GET THE MORE HAPPY I BECOME! COME AT ME YOU FILTHY SWINES!

Harry consistently picked them players numbnuts

In football you need consistency, we finished 4th again which is great but its time to step up now.
Levy needs to forget about 600M stadia and spend on quality players, for example it will be funny seeing WH playing in an empty 80000 seater. This season though the 4th finish proved to be a let down but at least there is time now to sort everything out for Aug.

Anonymous said...

daniel levy will certainly appeal against this unfair rule, and will win, and get champions league place back, we wont accept this farce.

Redknapp blatantly admitted he is burnt out.

Keiran said...

Redknapp out, my arse. The guy has taken us to the top four twice during his time at the club. A couple of good seasons and fans are on his back the second things start to go wrong. It's embarrassing.
No, I'm not too happy about the Europa League either, especially since we were looking good for third, but that's exactly what happens when your team is playing in such a great league.

Anonymous said...

I have read the article which most of which I agree with and there have been some good points made in reply and this is my 2 pence worth:
I cant remember a more frustrating and for most part confusing season than we have just experienced. It started off with the ModricSaga, then the 2 fixture draws against the top 2 sides, then Harrygate and ended up relying on another team losing the CL final for us to qualify.
Wow what a season.Teams were being beaten by lesser sides and contoversial referee decisions decided results.
Luck was definately not on our side this season, if this or if only that etc etc
Truth is actually we wasnt quite good enough because a team as big as Tottenham should never have let a 13 point gap go the way they did.The question is how did this happen, if it was HR being distracted then thats fine its all sorted now thanks to Hodgson but if it something else then it this that has to be addressed and asap.

Levy needs to spend ffs

Saha? Nelson? Ha Ha Ha Ha

Whats wrong with the Europa League? If its that bad then why isnt it thrown out? Everyone cant be in the CL.

Anonymous said...

Wigan,Bolton,QPR,Wolves,Fulham,Blackburn,Villa and Norwich are TOP sides, I know this cos Harry Redknapp said so in his prematch interviews...........

Anonymous said...

yeah we had some bad luck but its deeper than that and Levy needs to sort it out.

Anonymous said...

Anon 12.40 Levy wont appeal, on the official site it already states we are in the Europa.
Anon 1.05 Whats wrong with Europa? Its a drain on the club, and also an unnessasary distraction.

Anonymous said...

The guy that said the Europa League is a useless distraction

NOOOOO

Thats what Harry Redknapp said yet if we win it then it would be the biggest trophy we have won since 1962, as in my opinion the Europa League is a much harder cup to win than the FA Cup

Redkanpp just doesnt focus on it, he is an idiot why isnt he sacked yet.

What we really need is a sugar daddy and a new manager. If the first wont happen then we need a new manager and a DoF.

you want 50 mill for bale van de vart and modric who are so good they couldnt get you 3rd spot lol.if they were worth that and played like 50 mill players you would have won title not finished behind a poor arsenal team again and again, and again.no chance of champs now with city and chelski and manure all ready to spend big.arsenal will buy while spuds wont be able to attract top players because of no champs football.this is all before you got to spend lots of money getting a ground.not finishing 3rd is going to mess spuds up for many years thats if they ever recover from this.look forward to laughing at you on channel 5.

They need to make the Europa count for something...winner into group stages of CL and runner up into group stages of Europa or qualification stages of CL for the next year.

Makes no sense that the 'champion' of the Europa is not in the 'champions' leauge the next year, but teams from the SPL are.

ha ha ha ha.....Spuds must be more humble... they should learn from Arsenal... Spuds must realize that they are lucky to have neighbor such as Arsenal. So, please come to Emirates and take lessons on how to manage a football club!!!

Hv been with Spurs for 20 years. Gutted that having played the entire season, 38 matches, win some lose some, the 4th placing is NOT carried out. Spurs and ANY other team in the Future, should not be left out. Mr Platini Fair Play, and EU FA, do NOT keep quiet. This situation can happen again. 4TH is still 4TH, ANY team from any EU club that qualifies, should not be held back. The footballing world is watching. Bring back hope and happiness to the 11 players and manager. Blood sweat and tears, they tried, give them a EQUAL chance. A voice from Malaysia. Victor.
