So obvious that the Moutinho transfer was a load of hype to sucker in Spurs supporters into thinking we were going to get a World class player, although Levy did do some good business offloading, the club already knew about the Moutinho 'get out' clause etc etc bla bla so it was all a load of bollocks. Ok we get Clint Dempsey and Fulham get Dimitar Berbatov for £4M. No disrespect to Clint but at £4M its a no brainer as to who was the better buy.

In saying all this, what we DO get with Clint is an honest player who gives 100% a bit like a Parker but up front, so time will tell.

On past form Berba is a better player but he hasn't played that many games in the last couple of years. Oncurrent form Dempsey is better
berba or not, fulham will struggle this season, clint and mousa held them together so if were bmj i wouldn't laugh just yet.

Dempsey scored over 20 goals for Fulham last season and Berbatov played about 4 times. I know who I would rather spend my 4 million on. He can also play in the hole behind the front man, chich Berbatov can not.
I am not gonna lie and say I didn't want Berbatov to come back, but that is only because I thought Dempsey was nailed on for Liverpool. Also Berbatov is hardly the most mobile, whereas Dempsey puts in a real shift.
I'm happy with our business and strongly believe that Moutinho was nearly there.
Maybe a revisit in January??

Dembele is a good replacement for van de vaart who would have reduced transfer value next season at age 30. Dembele is 25 and coming into his prime. He will score goals from midfield in this team.

Modric has not been replaced with an equivalent player but did we need another player like Modric?
No loyalty, pleasing to the eye but, disapointing end product. His goals return and direct assists suggest Spurs have done well to sell him for 30 million. Aaron Lennon scores and creates more goals than Modric and is Spurs through and through. Jake Livermore is a differnt type of central midfield player but has emerged and will fit with the new shape. Sigurdsen gives us a further option.

I would prefer Berbatov to Dempsey but, Dempsey is 2 years younger and is probably on less money. Any deal for Berbatov would have been a gamble. At 31 he would have no resale value and may have been happy to just sulk and pick up his (high) wages. He is on the way down.
The move for Dempsey is progress and he will be keen to prove a point and step up. If he can't Adebayor and Defoe are proven and established.

The other signings of Lloris and Vertonghen are also first class.
We still have Youness Kaboul, Kyle Walker, Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon and Sandro who are all quality and young. I was worried about the potential sale of Dawson and Huddlestone but neither have played many games recently and struggle with injuries. If nothing else we will find out if they are prepared to fight for their futures or join a less ambitious club like Berbatov has.
I didn't trust Levy for the first few seasons but he has done what he said he would do. His managers have assembled a squad of players we should be proud of and support.

I love the Dempsey signing. He's very versatile. And having watched his whole career including his time in MLS, I'd say my biggest fear is that his versatility sometimes gets the best of him--he's used to being one of the only two (if that many) quality players on the field for his side at any given time, and he's going to have to learn to stay with the shape. But he's smart and ambitious and wants to win.
